NearNow — Privacy Policy
Version 1.5 · Last Updated: August 19, 2026
At NearNow, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your data when you use our website, mobile application, and related services (collectively, the “Platform”).
By using NearNow, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
• Account information (name, email, phone number, and date of birth for age verification)
• Profile information (photos, bio, interests/tribes, vibes, and other identity or preference selections)
• Event data when you host or post events (title, description, location, date/time, and any photos or images you attach)
• Images you upload as event covers, profile photos, or other content (which may contain identifiable faces or other personal data)
• Social media or other external profile links that you choose to connect and make public on your profile
• Payment information (processed securely by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers)
• Communications you send to hosts, other users, or NearNow support
Sensitive Personal Information and Identity Selections
Certain profile selections you may make—such as affiliations with LGBTQ+, sober/recovery, faith-based, or other identity communities—can constitute sensitive personal information under applicable privacy laws. By default, these selections are private and locked. They are not displayed on your public profile and are not shared with hosts or other users except as described below.
Voluntary public disclosure. You may choose, through clear in-product controls, to unlock and make specific identity facets public on your profile. You may also choose to connect and publicly display links to external social or professional profiles. When you affirmatively elect to make any such information public, that information becomes visible to other users who view your public profile. You control which facets (if any) are made public, and you may change or revoke those choices at any time in Settings.
Community-only events. When you RSVP to a community-only event, you provide an affirmative signal (via explicit, informed consent at the point of RSVP) that you belong to the host-specified community. This may involve the processing of sensitive personal information. We process this information only to the extent necessary to operate the community-only event feature and only after you have given clear consent. We do not share your underlying private identity selections with the host beyond that RSVP signal.
Automatically Collected Information
• Location data (with your permission) to show nearby events and improve discovery
• Device information, IP address, browser or app version, and approximate location derived from IP
• Usage data (pages or screens viewed, events browsed, RSVPs, searches, and similar interactions)
We also use cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session, remember preferences, and analyze how the Platform is used.
Image Metadata
Images you upload may contain embedded metadata (EXIF or similar), which can include location coordinates, device model, timestamps, and other technical details. As a data-minimization measure, NearNow strips location and certain other technical metadata from uploaded images where feasible. Even after metadata is stripped, the image itself may still contain personal data (for example, a recognizable face). You should only upload images you have the right to use and that you are comfortable sharing on the Platform.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
• Provide, operate, and personalize the NearNow experience (including matching you with relevant events and communities)
• Verify that you meet the minimum age requirement (18+) using the date of birth you provide at registration
• Process RSVPs, tickets, payments, and related transactions
• Display event covers, profile images, public identity facets you have chosen to unlock, and other User Content you choose to submit
• Enable communication between guests and hosts
• Operate the reliability rating and related trust signals
• Moderate content, enforce our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, and protect the safety and integrity of the Platform
• Improve the Platform through analytics and troubleshooting
• Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests
Community-Only Events. When you RSVP to a community-only event after providing explicit consent, we use that affirmative signal solely to confirm to the host that you belong to the specified community. We do not share your underlying private identity selections, full profile details, or other sensitive attributes with the host beyond that signal.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:
• With event hosts — limited attendee information necessary to manage an event you have RSVP’d to
• On your public profile — only the identity facets, social links, and other profile information that you have affirmatively chosen to make public
• With service providers who assist us in operating the Platform (payment processing, hosting, analytics, content moderation, customer support), under contractual obligations to protect the data
• For legal and safety reasons — including to respond to court orders, subpoenas, DMCA notices, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of NearNow, our users, or the public
• In connection with a business transfer — such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case the receiving party will be bound by confidentiality and privacy obligations consistent with this Policy
4. Data Security
We implement industry-standard technical and organizational measures designed to protect your personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
5. Your Rights and Choices
• Access, correction, and deletion. You may view and update much of your profile information directly in the app. You may request deletion of your account and associated data through Settings → Delete Account. When an account is deleted, we remove or anonymize associated User Content (including uploaded images) in accordance with our retention practices, subject to any legal, accounting, or operational need to retain limited records for a reasonable period.
• Public identity and social links. You control which (if any) identity facets and external profile links appear on your public profile. You may change or revoke those public designations at any time in Settings.
• Location. You may disable location services at any time in your device settings; some discovery features will then be limited or unavailable.
• Marketing communications. You may opt out of promotional emails by using the unsubscribe link or contacting us.
• Age eligibility. NearNow is intended only for users 18 years of age and older. We collect date of birth at registration and use it to enforce this requirement server-side. Date of birth is write-once and is not editable by the user after submission.
Residents of California and certain other states may have additional rights under applicable privacy laws. To exercise any available right, contact us at the address below.
6. Children’s Privacy
NearNow is not directed to individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
7. International Users
NearNow is operated in the United States. If you access the Platform from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the revised policy on the Platform and update the “Last Updated” date. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date of the revised policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
